E. C. Glass on Lockdown Due to Suspicious Phone Call
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) personnel are at E. C. Glass High School in response to a suspicious phone call received this afternoon.
On September 19, 2022, at 12:59 p.m., Lynchburg Emergency Services received a phone call on a non-emergency line about a possible “machine gun” inside the school. This information prompted the school to enter a lockdown and LPD officers immediately responded to the school.
Out of an abundance of caution, a large police presence remains at the school to perform a thorough search throughout the building. Thus far, nothing has been found. LPD and Lynchburg City Schools are working cooperatively to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Similar phone calls have been received today by other schools located in Virginia and many others across the nation have reported similar incidents in recent weeks.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Lynchburg Police Department at (434) 455-6041 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900. Enter an anonymous tip online at http://p3tips.com or use the P3 app on a mobile device.
This is an ongoing investigation and any additional information will be provided as an update to this release.
