Violent Crime Response Team Update
On December 7, 2022, the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) implemented a Violent Crime Response Team (VCRT). VCRT is a team led by LPD officers who partner regularly with Virginia State Police to engage in proactive policing efforts, focusing on violent offenders, and increasing law enforcement presence in identified high–crime areas. VCRT’s proactive work has proven to be successful since its implementation.
As of May 2, 2023, VCRT has proactively handled 804 calls for service, assisted on 1,015 calls for service, conducted 368 traffic stops, and issued 241 summonses. The team has made 239 arrests, including 45 felony drug arrests, and seized 46 firearms.
The Lynchburg Police Department is committed to keeping Lynchburg safe by partnering with and protecting our community. We encourage the community to call 9-1-1 to report suspicious or criminal activity in their neighborhood. If you have information related to a previously reported crime, it can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 888-798-5900, or enter a tip online at http://p3tips.com, or use the P3 app on a mobile device.
The Lynchburg Police Department would like to thank Virginia State Police for their continued partnership and support.
