November 11, 2021 – The Lynchburg Police Department has arrested a woman after she purposely struck a man with her vehicle on Lakeside Drive last night.
On November 10, 2021 at 9:34 p.m., officers responded to the iStorage facility located at 2637 Lakeside Drive for a report of a hit and run with injury. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. The man was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver fled and abandoned the vehicle at the Speedway on Lakeside Drive. Officers located her hiding in a nearby field and took her into custody.
As a result of the incident, Melissa Gilmore, 39, of Bedford, is charged with the following:
- Felony hit and run
- Felony DUI
- Felony property damage
The crash is still under investigation. Any additional information will be released as an update to this news release.
