Captain Daniel Black currently serves as the Captain of Field Operations Bureau I where he oversees the operations of three patrol platoons. He has served as a law enforcement officer since 1995 when he began his career with the LPD. After completing the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy in 1995, he was assigned as a Patrol Officer on evening shift.
Captain Black has served as a Patrol Officer, Street Crimes Officer, Vice/Narcotics Detective, Criminal Investigations Detective and on the Tactical Unit prior to being promoted to Lieutenant in 2011. He served as the Lieutenant of the A Platoon, Crime Scene Unit and Special Investigations Division before his promotion to captain in 2019 and assigned to his current position.
Captain Black is a graduate of the Fluvanna County High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Radford University in 1994. He completed the National Criminal Justice Command College in 2014 and recently completed the VACP Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS).
