Mark Jamison joined the Lynchburg Police Department on January 3, 1997. He has been promoted through the ranks within the department to his current position where he serves as Deputy Chief of the Field Operations Bureau. During his career, Deputy Chief Jamison has served in Patrol, Vice/Narcotics, Criminal Investigations, Professional Standards, and has been a Crisis Negotiations Team Commander.
Deputy Chief Jamison earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Government from Liberty University and his Master of Science Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from Longwood University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Administrative Officers Management Program. Deputy Chief Jamison is a graduate of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, Professional Executive Leadership School, the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police, and the Force Science Institute.
He serves on the Crime Prevention Committee for the International Associations of Chiefs of Police and the Training Committee for the Virginia Associations of Chiefs of Police. Deputy Chief Jamison is a member of the Optimist Club of Lynchburg where he served as president from 2018-2020 and currently serves on the board of directors as past president. Deputy Chief Jamison is also a board member of the Central Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program and Chair of the Professional Executive Leadership Alumni Section.
