July 16, 2021 – The Lynchburg Police Department will begin its 2021 Citizen’s Police Academy on Thursday, August 26. The seven-week Citizen’s Police Academy is intended to provide in-depth information about the Lynchburg Police Department and police operations. It is not designed to train anyone to be a police officer. The course will expose the public to many of the same topics and training that our officers receive so citizens can better understand how the police and criminal justice system work. Topics covered include the Lynchburg Police Department’s Mission and Values, Field Operations and Criminal Investigations, Traffic Stop Scenarios, Vice and Narcotics, Use of Force, Crisis Negotiations, Body Worn cameras, and more.
