The Lynchburg Police Department is committed to helping victims and witnesses of crime obtain the appropriate assistance as they participate in the criminal justice system. It is Lynchburg Police Department policy that all victims and witnesses be treated with dignity, respect, and sensitivity. The department remains committed to working with the Lynchburg Commonwealth Attorney’s Victim/Witness Office in the development, implementation, and continuation of appropriate Victim/Witness services.

Lynchburg Police Officers are trained to provide victims and witnesses with in-person assistance, useful information, or if appropriate, referrals when responding to initially investigate crimes.

If you need Victim/Witness assistance, further information, or need to provide additional information regarding a crime already reported to the Police Department, call the Lynchburg Police Department Information Desk at (434) 455-6041 or the Lynchburg Commonwealth Attorney’s Victim/Witness Office at (434) 455-3790.

If you are the victim of crime or have not filed a police report; and /or have been threatened or otherwise fear for your safety, call 911 immediately.

If you wish to gain knowledge about how to protect yourself, your home, your business, or your property against criminal acts, call the Lynchburg Police Department Community Action Team at (434) 455-6070 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

 
Lynchburg Commonwealth Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Assistance Program

Services Include:

  • Information about your case
  • Explanation about court procedures, including preparation to testify and / or a tour of the courtroom
  • Crisis counseling and referrals
  • Assistance with filing a crime victim compensation form for injuries resulting from a crime

To Obtain a Warrant

You may apply for a criminal warrant by appearing in person before a magistrate at the location listed below. Magistrates are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You do not have to be physically injured to obtain a warrant.
