Shooting near University of Lynchburg
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) is investigating the report of a shooting near the University of Lynchburg that occurred early this morning.
On March 13, 2022 at 4:24 a.m., officers responded to Lynchburg General Hospital for report of a 21-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the forearm. The man told officers he was in a parking lot near Vernon Street when he heard a gunshot and then realized he had been struck. He responded to the hospital to seek treatment for the injury which was not life-threatening.
LPD officers responded to the area of Vernon Street attempting to locate a crime scene and any witnesses but were unsuccessful.
There were no other reports of shots being fired near this area overnight.
Due to the location of the incident, the University of Lynchburg Office of Campus Safety and Security was notified and responded to assist with the investigation. The male victim is not a student at the university.
