Vehicle vs. Motorcycle Crash on Route 460 and Candlers Mountain Road
LYNCHBURG, Va. – A motorcyclist has serious injuries after a crash involving another vehicle on Route 460.
On April 13, 2023, Officers of the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) and Lynchburg Fire & EMS personnel responded to 460 East in the area of Candlers Mountain Road at 10:13 p.m. for a report of a vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.
When officers arrived at the scene they found a Chrysler Sebring and a Harley Davidson motorcycle with a large debris field. The operator of the motorcycle was suffering serious injuries and had to be airlifted by Centra One to Roanoke. All eastbound lanes of 460 had to be shut down for an hour and 45 minutes.
The driver of the Sebring, Joseph Blankenship (28) was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
The crash remains under investigation by the LPD Traffic Safety Unit. Additional charges are pending. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident is asked to contact Officer Bauserman at 434-455-6047.
