Driver Charged with 6 Counts of Felony Hit-and-Run after Crash at 501 and Lakeside Dr.
LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) Traffic Safety Unit is investigating a crash that occurred this morning at the intersection of Route 501 and Lakeside Drive.
On Friday, June 30, 2023, at 8:35 a.m. LPD officers responded to a traffic crash involving nine vehicles. The Traffic Safety Unit responded to investigate the crash. It was determined that a dump truck struck seven vehicles in the intersection and debris from the crash damaged two other vehicles. Two people, who are currently in stable condition, were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital by the Lynchburg Fire Department.
The dump truck driver, James McDaniel (54) of Concord, is charged with the following:

Six (6) counts of Felony Hit-and-Run

Reckless Driving

Impaired Driving of a Commercial Vehicle
McDaniel is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg without bond.
