LPD Responds to Shot Fired in the 1900 Block of Union Street
Lynchburg, VA – At approximately 3:47 PM today, the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) responded to reports of a shot fired in the 1900 block of Union Street. Adult Protective Services (APS) was conducting a welfare check on an adult female at a residence when an adult male at the scene became agitated and threatened to shoot the APS worker. As the APS worker was leaving, the male subject fired a shot in their direction.
The LPD made multiple attempts to contact the subject before entering the residence. Upon entry, officers located and apprehended the individual without incident. No injuries were reported during this incident.
Charles Rayburn Jr., 55, of Lynchburg, has been charged with the following:
Attempted Murder
Reckless Handling of a Firearm
Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits
Possession of a Firearm While Subject to a Protective Order
Violation of a Protective Order
