Missing and Endangered Person
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) is investigating a case involving a missing and endangered adult.
On December 25, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., officers responded to the 900-block of Federal Street for a report of a missing person.
Mary Jean Stewart (78) left her home walking on Federal Street around 11:00 a.m., this morning. Stewart was expected back at home around 12:00 p.m. Walking is a normal behavior for Stewart. She regularly walks from Federal Street to the downtown Lynchburg business area (Main Street). Stewart is also known to frequent the area of Rivermont Avenue. After Stewart did not return, and friends and family could not locate her, police were called to report her as missing.
Stewart is considered endangered due to experiencing a medical condition that affects her cognitive abilities. Stewart is a white female, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, 160 pounds and has thinning grey hair. She was last seen wearing a gray jacket and what was described as printed pajama style pants, unknown color. Family reported that Stewart does not have a cell phone.
LPD Officers are actively searching for Stewart at this time.
