Lynchburg PD’s Flock ALPR: another tool keeping our city safe
The Lynchburg Police Department deploys an integrated network of Flock Safety automated license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras to help officers quickly identify vehicles connected to crimes. The system provides real-time alerts on “hotlist” plates (including Amber Alerts and NCIC/VSP notices) and supports targeted searches before and after incidents—speeding the recovery of stolen cars and helping locate suspect vehicles tied to burglaries, violent offenses, or missing-person cases. As of September 1, 2025, LPD operates 15 cameras citywide, with data retained for 21 days to aid investigations. The technology captures plates and vehicle details—not faces; all access is logged and requires a valid investigative reason. Together, these safeguards and capabilities make Flock ALPR a focused, accountable tool that enhances LPD’s efforts to keep Lynchburg safe.
