LPD Arrests Man for Attempted Malicious Wounding
LYNCHBURG, Va. – On March 17, 2026, at approximately 10:38 p.m., the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) responded to the area of Fort Avenue and Wadsworth Street following reports of shots fired.
Officers responded to the area after receiving an alert from LPD’s gunshot detection system. Shortly thereafter, LPD’s Emergency Communications Officers received a 911 call from the victim. The victim reported they were operating their vehicle near Fort Ave. and Wadsworth St. when an individual they knew shot at them. They provided the name and description of the suspect to the call taker. LPD officers who were already in the area located the suspect nearby, matching the description provided, within minutes. The suspect initially did not comply with officer commands before officers observed a handgun fall from his person. A cartridge casing was later located and recovered from the street at the intersection of Fort Avenue and Wadsworth Street. No injuries have been reported as a result of this shooting incident.
LPD officers identified the suspect as Khamare` Anderson, 24, of Lynchburg. Anderson was arrested and charged with the following. He is currently being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond:
- Attempted Malicious Wounding
- Attempted Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle
- Reckless Handling of a Firearm
- Brandishing a Firearm
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Discharge of a Firearm in a Public Place
