LPD Arrests Man on Weapons and Drug Offenses
Lynchburg, VA – On July 1, 2026, around 8:20 a.m., a team of LPD officers in the 2400 block of 12th Street attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a moped. The driver, Tr’rail Perkins, 38, of Lynchburg, failed to stop, abandoned his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
During the foot pursuit, one officer discharged a single shot from their department-issued handgun. No one was injured and Perkins was taken into custody without further incident.
As a result of the investigation, Perkins was charged with: Distribution of Schedule I/II, Possession of a Firearm while Possessing Schedule I/II, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon.
Perkins was transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where is he is being held without bond.
Chief Edwards requested the Virginia State Police to assist in the investigation. The involved officer has been placed on restricted duty. Additionally, LPD will conduct an internal review.
