LPD Investigates Assault Involving School Bus Driver
LYNCHBURG, VA — On March 30, 2026, at approximately 4:40 p.m., the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) responded to a report of a disorderly individual at Linkhorne Elementary School, 2501 Linkhorne Drive.
Upon arrival, officers began an investigation that revealed a bus driver, while parked in the school parking lot, allegedly assaulted a student on the bus. LPD worked with Lynchburg City Schools and determined the student had been strangled during the encounter. The child is safe and did not sustain life-threatening injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Effie Wynn, 73, of Lynchburg, has been charged with strangulation and child neglect.
Wynn was arrested on April 4, 2026, without incident and is being held without bond.
