Lynchburg Animal Control Seizes Animals from Deplorable Conditions
Lynchburg, VA. – On July 9, 2024, Lynchburg Animal Control Officers responded to a complaint of animal hoarding in the 1600 block of Shaffer Street. Once on the scene, officers discovered an appalling situation and obtained a search warrant to address the reported conditions.
Inside the residence, officers found 15 dogs and a pet bird living in deplorable and unsanitary conditions. The animals were immediately seized and transported to the Lynchburg Humane Society for evaluation and care.
Subsequent to the discovery, Lynchburg City Inspections were informed and promptly condemned the property due to its hazardous state.
Following a civil seizure hearing on July 22nd at the Lynchburg General District Court, Ashley Elizabeth Owen (54) was charged with 5 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
