Lynchburg Police Department Addresses Recent Social Media CommentsLYNCHBURG, VA – Earlier today, the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) was alerted to concerning comments posted by an individual on social media. The comments appeared threatening in nature and were posted during and in relation to an ongoing City Council meeting. In response to these concerns, LPD detectives promptly made contact with the individual involved.The individual, a 24-year-old male with special needs, was identified, and his caretaker was informed of the situation. It was discovered that the caretaker was unaware of the individual’s use of social media. The caretaker has since taken immediate action to remove the individual’s access to social media platforms.After thorough review and consultation with Lynchburg’s Commonwealth Attorney, it has been determined that the comments in question do not constitute a criminal threat. The matter has been resolved, and no further legal action will be taken.The Lynchburg Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.
