UPDATE: Lynchburg Police Department Responds to Shots Fired Incident
Lynchburg, VA – As a result of the investigation, the two individuals who were detained by Lynchburg Police shortly after the incident have been identified as Andre D. Belton, 40 of Lynchburg, and Jay’Len W. Carter, 25 of Lynchburg.
Belton and Carter were both arrested and charged as follows in relation to this shooting incident. They were transported to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail where they are being held.
Belton was charged with:
Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
Attempted Malicious Wounding
Reckless Handling of a Firearm
Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Carter was charged with:
Breaking and Entering
Attempted Malicious Wounding
Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
Discharge of a Firearm in the City Limits
Reckless Handling of a Firearm
Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Property Damage

Lynchburg Police Department Responds to Shots Fired Incident
Lynchburg, VA – At approximately 8:07 AM today, the Lynchburg Police Department received reports of shots fired into a residence on McKinley Street. Officers promptly arrived on the scene and detained two male suspects for questioning.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the incident stems from a neighborhood dispute. Importantly, there is currently no ongoing threat to the community, and no injuries have been reported. Charges are pending.
