Lynchburg, VA – The victim in last night’s incident has been identified as 25-year-old Zaykeese Amarius Brown, a resident of Lynchburg. Out of respect for his family, we delayed sharing his name to ensure they were properly notified first.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Zaykeese during this incredibly difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences as they navigate this profound loss.
This is believed to have been an isolated incident. There is no known threat to the community at this time.

Malicious Wounding Results in Death of Lynchburg Resident
Lynchburg, VA – At approximately 6:40 p.m. this evening, the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) responded to a report of a malicious wounding in the 2000 block of Bedford Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found multiple individuals administering life-saving measures to a 25-year-old male with a chest wound, believed to be the result of a gunshot. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Lynchburg General Hospital.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the victim, who was at his residence, had been playing video games in an online chat room with friends. After the victim suddenly stopped communicating in the chat room, his friends went to his home to check on him. Upon discovering the victim, the friends called 911 reaching the Emergency Communication Center, and were instructed in performing life saving measures while speaking with the Dispatcher. They continued these measures until LPD and Lynchburg Fire Department arrived on scene.
