Man in Custody After Vehicle Pursuit
LYNCHBURG, Va. – On May 28, 2024, at 11:26 a.m., the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) was alerted about a stolen Volvo sedan being operated in the area of Timberlake Rd and officers began searching the area for it.
Shortly after, an LPD officer located the vehicle in the parking lot of Koto Japanese Steakhouse on Wards Road. When officers approached the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Arthur Leroy Gibson, 38, of Lynchburg abandoned it and fled on foot into the parking lot of Wendy’s Restaurant. Gibson then proceeded to steal an unoccupied and running vehicle, a Dodge Pickup with a utility trailer and fled in it. A vehicle pursuit ensued, spanning Wards Road, Candlers Mountain Road, and 29 North Expressway before the suspect crashed on 29 North near Odd Fellows Road. Officers were able to arrest Gibson without incident after a brief foot pursuit.
Arthur Leroy Gibson has been charged with the following offenses and is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond:
- Grand Larceny – Auto
- Unauthorized Use
- Obstruction of Justice
- Driving with a Revoked License
- Felony Eluding
- Driving Under the Influence – Drugs
- Reckless Driving
An outstanding unrelated Capias was also served.
