Vehicle Crash on Route 501 near Timberlake Road
LYNCHBURG, Va. – A crash involving two vehicles on Route 501 resulted in one vehicle catching fire.
At 6:47 p.m. on March 5, 2024, the Lynchburg Police Department’s (LPD) Emergency Communications Center received reports of a motor vehicle crash on Route 501 near Timberlake Rd and promptly dispatched emergency personnel.
Officers from the Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) and personnel from the Lynchburg Fire Department (LFD) responded to the scene, discovering one of the vehicles involved in the crash overturned and engulfed in flames. Fortunately, one occupant had already been safely removed from the vehicle.
Prior to the arrival of on-duty emergency personnel, several individuals stopped and provided aid to the involved parties including off-duty law enforcement officers with LPD, Virginia State Police, and Lynchburg Sheriff’s Office, who with the help of citizens, bravely worked together to remove the injured occupant from the burning vehicle. Once removed, LFD medics transported the injured individual to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Route 501 was temporarily closed in both directions for approximately one and a half hours due to the severity of the crash.
This incident remains under investigation by LPD’s Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to contact Officer Bauserman at 434-455-6047.
