Requests must be accompanied with a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope

  • Verification of an incident can be obtained from The Records Unit by the complainant, victim or property owner.  Copies of case records on file with the police department are released only to law enforcement officers or pursuant to a subpoena. Once you have submitted your report request, check with the Records Unit at (434) 455-6069 five days after report was taken to check the report release status.
  • A $10 search and service fee in the form of cash, credit, money order, or check made payable to the Lynchburg City Police Department is required, and a stamped self-addressed envelope. The request may be made in person or by mail. Credit and Debit Card payments will be assessed a 2.25% transaction fee. (We will not be accepting card payments by phone)

Traffic Accident Reports

Effective June 1, 2019, the Lynchburg Police Department Records Unit will no longer release vehicle crash reports to citizens or insurance companies. Individuals seeking a copy of a report from a crash that they were involved in should contact their local DMV office. However, we recommend checking with our Records Unit first (in person or by phone) to ensure the report has been finalized and sent to the DMV.

  • As of June 1, 2017 the Lynchburg Police Department no longer offers Criminal Background Checks.
  • To obtain Criminal Background Checks in the Commonwealth of Virginia please visit the Virginia State Police Website.
